The Harvey C Fruehauf Professor of Business Administration at the University of Michigan Business School, he specialises in corporate strategy and the role and value added of top management in large diversified, multinational corporations. Since completing his D.B.A from Harvard University in 1975, he has been a visiting research fellow at Harvard, Professor at the Indian Institute of Management and Visiting Professor at the European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD). He is currently working on two research activities called Strategic management of large diversified corporations and the role of top management. . Selected Publications: Professor Prahalad's books include: The Multinational Mission: Balancing Local Demands and Global Vision (1987) with Yves Doz; and Competing for the Future (1994) co-authored with Gary Hamel, which has been printed in thirteen languages. Many of the articles he has co-authored have appeared in the Harvard Business Review, including Do You Really Have a Global Strategy? (1985); Collaborate With Your Competitors - and Win (1989); Strategic Intent (1989); The Core Competence of the Corporation (1990); Corporate Imagination and Expeditionary Marketing (1991); Strategy as Stretch and Leverage (1993); Competing for the Future (1994); and The End of Corporate Imperialism (1998). Recently, C K Prahalad appeared in the 2000 edition of the best selling book “The Guru Guide: The Best Ideas of the Top Management Thinkers.”

Awards:

  • The Role of Core Competencies in the Corporation (1993) received the 1994 Maurice Holland Award as the best paper published in Research Technology Management in 1993
  • European Foundation for Management Award for his article A Strategy for Growth: The Role of Core Competence in Corporation.
  • McKinsey Prizes won in 1989, 1990 and 1998 for Strategic Intent, The Core Competence of the Corporation and The End of Corporate Imperialism.
  • C K Prahalad was named in Business Week as one of the top ten business professors in the country
