George Yip
Professor of Strategic and International Management at LBS
Dr Yip is Professor of Strategic and International Management at London Business School. Formerly the Beckwith Professor of Management Studies at Cambridge University’s Business School, where he taught business strategy and global marketing, George has also held faculty positions at Harvard Business School, Stanford Business School, Oxford University, and UCLA.
George conducts research on global strategy and global marketing, regional strategy for Asia-Pacific and Eastern Europe, managing global customers and global brands, and implementation of global strategy. He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from Cambridge University, an M.B.A. from Cranfield School of Management and Harvard Business School, and a D.B.A. from Harvard Business School (where he was advised by Professor Michael Porter.)

His book, Total Global Strategy: Managing for Worldwide Competitive Advantage (Prentice Hall, 1992) was selected as one of the 30 best business books of 1992; and has been translated into eight languages. Forthcoming titles include Bases of Competitive Advantage & Global Strategy in the 21st Century (Financial Times Handbook of Management, 2001);Strategy & the Multinational Enterprise (w/ Tallman S, Oxford Handbook of International Business, 2001). Recent books include Asian Advantage: key strategies for winning in the Asia Pacific region, (Perseus Publishing, 2000) and Strategies for Central & Eastern Europe (w/ Kozminski A K, Macmillan Business, 2000). George has published articles on strategy and marketing in the Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, Marketing Management, Strategic Management Journal among others. Recent articles include Global strategy in the internet era, (Business Strategy Review, Winter 2000) & Challenge of global customer management, (w/ Montgomery D B, Marketing Management Oct 2000). Previous titles include Global Account Management, (International Marketing Review, 1996) & Developing Strategies for Service Businesses, (California Management Review, 1994).

Dr Yip has ten years of hands-on business experience in international business, marketing, and strategic planning, working with the top management groups and forums all over the world, including Andersen Consulting, Bank of America, BASF, Bertelsmann, Deutsche Bank, IBM, McKinsey, KPMG, Nestle, Nissan, Nokia, Philips, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, San Miguel, SAP, Singapore Airlines, Sony, ST Microelectronics, and for conferences held by Business Week, Far Eastern Economic Review, Forbes, Fortune, and the World Economic Forum.
